New
joint head of operations for Movium and SLU Urban Futures
Lina Berglund-Snodgrass has been appointed joint head of operations for the SLU Movium Think Tank and SLU Urban Futures. The joint function brings the two units into a closer organisational collaboration and strengthens their shared work in landscape and urban research. The new structure aims to deepen collaboration, clarify strategic objectives, and create synergies between research, practice, and policy across SLU.
Historic city centres are often seen as unfriendly to vegetation – yet trees, gardens and courtyards have long shaped their identity. In this webinar, we explore urban greenery as living heritage, using case studies from Milan to show how historical city-nature relations can inform contemporary climate adaptation and planning. The session includes historical insights and practical examples presented by Maria Stella Lux, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor in Landscape Architecture at Politecnico di Milano.
Roundtable discussions
on climate adaptation and social resilience
On 6 May 2026, Folk och Forskning takes place in Uppsala under the theme Knowledge for Resilience. SLU Urban Futures is hosting two roundtable discussions: one on responsibility for climate adaptation from a landscape perspective, and one on strengthening social resilience in existing residential areas. The discussions bring together researchers and societal actors to explore concrete actions, collaboration and knowledge for decision-making in times of crisis and transformation. Learn

Circular approaches as alternatives to demolition in urban environments
A recent webinar in the Urban Landscapes webinar series explored how circular methods can guide urban development toward sustainability by making use of what already exists rather than defaulting to demolition. Researchers and practitioners discussed strategies for embedding circularity into everyday planning and design – from material reuse and the activation of existing buildings to landscape interventions that strengthen ecosystems and social value.
